Lauren E. Elrick is a PhD researcher at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands and the “Mihai Viteazul” National Intelligence Academy, Romania. Her research is conducted as part of the ESSENTIAL Project and focuses on how personal information is used with border security. In particular, she focuses on how the dual aims of protecting privacy and ensuring security can be achieved – primarily, through assessing whether this can be attained through the use of a holistic approach based upon the concept of the ecosystem.

Since March 2021, she has also held a position as a Lecturer in Technology Law at the University of Groningen.
